Interior design trends that we are currently swooning over

Hello, friends!

Lately, I've been keeping an eye on the latest trends across Instagram and Pinterest, and I can’t help but fall in love with the return of pleated skirt sofas and the soft, cozy charm of slipcovers. There’s something so wonderfully casual yet timeless about it all, a style that feels like home.

This trend is especially close to my heart, as it takes me back to the early days of my career, designing custom slipcovers for clients. It was the era of Rachel Ashwell’s books, where pleated and ruched skirted armchairs and sofas reigned supreme. Back then, we’d use simple linens and cottons—practical, yet the perfect way to breathe life into tired upholstery.

Now, I’m seeing a beautiful revival—a blend of upholstered furniture and slipcovers that honors these classic details. Designers are weaving them into modern spaces with such grace.

From ruched skirts to box pleats and inverted pleats, this trend is back with a fresh twist. It's modern, yet rooted in the past, and I find the combinations so inspiring. One piece I absolutely adore is the upholstered bed at Serena and Lily, with its box-pleated skirt at the bottom—a new classic in the making.

Below are some pictures of some favorites that I found on Pinterest or are from Serena and Lilly website
